Four Peach Blossoms

Four peach blossoms gather together, all on one bough,

crimson, tender as tender can be.

A bee rolls around, pressing its every bristle

on the pistils. Under the peach tree, my passion

is ruby red, holding my body tightly together.

Red, the color of my soul.

Spring is the time for new buds. as time passes by, red flames

will erupt on the green ivy wall,

a true poet does what these flowers do, too,

dreamy in spring, and uses all efforts to produce a burgeoning fruit.

I love depth and its darkness, but also beautiful appearances.

When four peach flowers bloom together,

it's a brass symphony played by the earth,

with four dreams, the music passes through the elastic mantle

and reaches the palisade beneath.

从乌鲁木齐到岳阳

绿皮火车给出的答案是

两天两夜，姑姑

五年才能回来一次

年轻时，姑姑投奔了

在新疆支边的姑父

住地质队的地窝子

娃娃们是戈壁滩放养的

祖父祖母过世，都没见上一面

异乡的清明，姑姑

总是把祖宗请出来

敬上纸烟、鸡蛋糕和茉莉花茶

陪着他们说说话

多少年，西部天空的纸鸢

扯得祖父祖母心疼

而从岳阳到乌鲁木齐

火车给出的答案同样是两天两夜

A Kite in the Western Sky

From Urumqi to Yueyang,

The green train takes two days and two nights

to come through with an answer, my aunt

can only come home once in five years.

When she was younger, she made a home

with my uncle at Xinjiang Construction Corps,

sleeping in the geological team's sod house,

herding their children on the steppe of the Gobi Desert,

and couldn't see my grandparents off when they passed away.

On the traditional grave-sweeping day, my aunt

would set up a place for our ancestors,

offering them rolled-up tobacco, sponge cake, jasmine tea,

and talk to them.

Years have passed, a kite in the western sky tugs and tugs

and my grandparents' souls ache.

From Yueyang to Urumqi, the train

takes the same two days and two nights to answer a prayer.

长方形的空地，或者

以长方形来接纳

秋天，晒不完的谷子、棉花

夏天，四周篱笆下开不败的花

为什么是长方形而不是

别的形状？而我的欢乐

总是比短边长，比长边短些

只有晚间的喧嚣会撑得这一切

略略变形。那是战斗：

一群小狼，一群小羊

被吃掉者，会趁着夜色悄悄活转

静静站着的云影

铺向远方的无边的蓝色针叶地毯

一个整齐的长方形

一直没被村庄不规则的生活消化掉

站在它上边，我有时会看见

一根斜向天空的隐形的线，牵着

谷粒一样的少年，和他狂野的未来之梦

像一只比故乡更大的风筝在飞

GRAIN-DRYING COURT

A rectangular vacant lot, or we can say

the rectangular lot for welcoming autumn,

receiving its grain and cotton pods waiting to be dried

while summer flowers under the hedge can't stop blossoming.

Why is it rectangular but not

other shapes? See, my joy is also a little

longer than wanting and a little shorter than longing.

Although when the evening comes,

it will be bent out of shape by noises—

as truggle is going on

between a pack of small wolves, a flock of baby lambs,

and the ghosts of those eaten quietly rise up.

The clouds stand ever so quiet,

sheltering an endless crest of blue spruce.

A perfect rectangle is still perfect,

not chewed over by the irregular village life.

Standing in this courtyard, I sometimes notice

an invisible line trailing to the sky, tethering

a young man, akin to a grain, and his unbridled dream

under the wings of a kite larger than my hometown.
